St. Charles Avenue New Orleans Streetcar Line Hotel

At one point in time there were over 235 miles of streetcar tracks in New Orleans, but as progress made its way to town, many of the tracks were paved over to make way for buses and cars.  Fortunately, the St. Charles Avenue streetcar line survived and has continuously run since its inception in 1893.  Named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, the line offers a leisurely tour of the Central Business District, the Garden District and Uptown.  For the complete route, begin at Stop 0 at the corner of Carondelet and Canal Streets ending at South Carrollton and South Claiborne avenues.  There are dozens of stops along the way in case you want to step off for some sight-seeing before continuing along the route.  The cars turn around at the end of the line and head back to their original starting point; a one-way trip along the line takes about 45 minutes.
